Founded in 1824, Montecristi is known by its traditions of weaving hats; this was the place where our ex president back in 1895 Eloy Alfaro was born, considered as a national hero for the work he did during his administration, born in one of the wealthiest families in the province, despite his origins, he fought for the less fortunate rights, in an age when the rich class privileges prevailed over the poor; Montecristi, is also the small town where our Assembly building, where we signed our last constitution in 2008; this building held a beautiful museum and a nice shop area, where you can buy a little souvenir.
